HE UH CANCER CENTER INVITES THE PUBLIC TO "QUEST FOR A CURE: PROGRESS IN CANCER RESEARCH" ON OCTOBER 7TH

The free event will feature some of the Cancer Center's leading experts sharing how research has improved the survival and quality of life of cancer patients.

Honolulu -- The University of Hawaii Cancer Center ("UH Cancer Center") is presenting the 4th Annual "QUEST FOR A CURE: Progress in Cancer Research," on Tuesday, October 7, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at their Sullivan Conference Center. A light lunch will be provided following the event. This is the first time the event will be held on the UH Cancer Center campus located at 701 Ilalo Street in Kaka‘ako.

Did you know that today in the U.S. there are over 14 million cancer survivors? This amazing fact is due to earlier detection and new treatments as a result of progress in cancer research.

We invite the public to visit the new UH Cancer Center facility in Kakaako and learn from some of our leading experts how research has improved the survival and quality of life of cancer patients. Come and hear about the exciting research being done at the UH Cancer Center.

Cancer survivor Mari Galiher (see attached photos) will also be a featured speaker at the event. At the age of 4, Mari was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), and went through 2-1/2 years of treatment in a clinical trial at the UH Cancer Center. Now 22, Mari is in her first year of the Master's Program in Communications at UHMānoa. She graduated Cum Laude from UH Mānoa in 3 years in May 2013. Her mother, Diane Ono, is a long time supporter of the UH Cancer Center, and sits on the Board of the Friends of the University of Hawaii Cancer Center, a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to support and promote the efforts of the University of Hawai‘i Cancer Center.

The event is free and open to the public. Please RSVP by 12 p.m. on October 6, 2014. For more information or to RSVP, call (808) 356-5770. Free parking is available at Kakaako Waterfront Park. Please request a parking permit when making your RSVP.
