Residents at Pi‘ikoi apartment complex continue to thrive on one-year anniversary

1506 Pi‘ikoi Street

Makiki -- One year after the debut of the 42-unit affordable housing complex at 1506 Pi‘ikoi Street, 96 residents, including 34 children, continue to thrive. All of the apartments within the complex are currently being rented.

The property consists of a three-story walk-up and a two-story walk-up and has four (4) three-bedroom units, three (3) two-bedroom units, 24 one-bedroom units, and 11 studios. Housing Solutions Inc. was chosen as the property manager and the maximum income for applicants is 50 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI), with rents ranging from $880 to $1,306 per month, depending on the layout of the apartment.

"This apartment complex shows that housing is the only permanent solution to homelessness, and I want to thank the longtime residents in the area for making their new neighbors feel welcomed," said Mayor Kirk Caldwell.

The city's Department of Land Management acquired the Pi‘ikoi Street property in November 2015 for $6 million, and headed a project team to complete the $6.4 million renovation in less than a year-and-a-half thanks in part to expedited processing under Governor David Ige's Emergency Proclamation for homeless housing. The Honolulu City Council provided funding for the project.

The project was designed by Group 70 International Inc. and the construction contract was awarded to Ralph S. Inouye Company Ltd., with SSFM International providing construction management.

This past weekend the Ralph S. Inouye Company Ltd. received an Award of Merit at the General Contractors Annual Association Awards event.
